Visiting Tà Pạ Hill in Tri Tôn

Tà Pạ Hill belongs to Núi Tô Commune, about 1 km from Tri Tôn town, and is one of the seven sacred mountains that form the legendary “Thất Sơn” (Seven Mountains) region. Although Tà Pạ Hill originally rises more than 120 meters above sea level, after years of stone quarrying, it now stands at a more modest height of about 45 meters.

From Tri Tôn Market, follow Nguyễn Trãi Street toward the Tức Dụp Hill Tourist Area, and you’ll reach Tà Pạ Pagoda—locally known as “Chùa Núi” (Mountain Pagoda) or “Chùa Chưn Num” in Khmer. The pagoda’s grand gate features towering stone pillars topped with a statue of the Four-Faced God.

From the pagoda gate, walk about 400 meters to reach the summit of Tà Pạ Hill. The hill retains a wild, rugged charm with towering rock walls like ancient fortresses, crisscrossed with horizontal and vertical lines, jagged stone pillars, reddish-brown rocks the color of chicken liver, and angular rock formations that look as if they were carved into strange, otherworldly shapes.

At the top of this pristine hill lies a deep 7-meter pit that is always filled with emerald-green water—known as Hồ Tà Pạ (Tà Pạ Lake). The lake formed accidentally about 10 years ago as a remnant of the stone quarrying process. Though created unintentionally, it has become an incredibly attractive natural wonder, drawing crowds of tourists.

The lake is surrounded by majestic rock cliffs. Looking down, the water is so clear you can see straight to the bottom. In deeper areas, it turns a deep green; in shallower spots, it’s lighter green, with patches of black, dark orange, or pale yellow—colors created by the rocks beneath the surface. On clear, sunny days, the lake mirrors the sky perfectly, its surface as smooth as glass and shimmering like jade—making Hồ Tà Pạ look exactly like a breathtaking ink-wash landscape painting.

Tà Pạ Hill is like a perfect “mountains and rivers” painting—enchanting and captivating from every angle. The air here is fresh and clean, the environment pristine, and visitors can feel the wild abundance of the land, the ancient solemnity of the Khmer Theravada Buddhist pagoda on the mountain, and the warm hospitality of the local people…

When visiting An Giang, don’t just stop at Hồ Tà Pạ—combine it with a trip to Núi Cô Tô for an even more memorable experience. From the top of Cô Tô Mountain, the view down into the Tà Pạ valley is stunning. Especially during the rice harvest season, the endless golden rice fields stretch as far as the eye can see, dotted with oil trees, creating a harmonious, irresistible landscape.
