The iconic floating markets with boats and sampans bustling along the waterways are a hallmark of Southern Vietnam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is precisely because of this that the craft of building boats and sampans (ghe xu\u1ed3ng) emerged and developed very early. These vessels were not only means of transportation and cargo hauling but also accompanied our soldiers and people during the resistance wars against foreign invaders\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many people even considered their boat a second home: by placing a thatched mat as a roof, adding a small stove and a few pots, couples who made their living fishing, shrimping, harvesting rice as laborers, or raising free-range ducks could live on the river for weeks or even months\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>B\u00e0 L\u00e0i Boat and Sampan Craft Village<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cThe sampan of my homeland has existed for a long time, bound to the lives of the people in \u0110\u1ed3ng Th\u00e1p\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have the chance to visit \u0110\u1ed3ng Th\u00e1p on a beautiful day during the flood season, don\u2019t miss B\u00e0 \u0110\u00e0i Boat and Sampan Craft Village (in Long H\u1eadu Commune, Lai Vung District). The famous \u201ccui\u201d sampan of B\u00e0 \u0110\u00e0i is forever linked to the name of \u201c\u00d4ng S\u00e1u Xu\u1ed3ng Cui\u201d and has endured for over a century.
